The Family Medicine Center was
built by
Memorial
Medical Center in
1997 exclusively for the use of the residency. The center
is divided into two pods, each with six general exam rooms, one
infant exam room, and one procedure room. One room in each
pod is set up for videotaping or observation of residents
through one-way mirrors. We also have a patient education
room, and an office for our behavioral specialist.
Our Patient population is ethnically and
economically diverse. As you would expect in the Southwest,
we have a large Hispanic clientele, and a small yet substantial
number of our patients either speak no English or speak it poorly.
Certainly, the ability to speak Spanish is a real asset here.
Economically, our patients range from the comfortably employed to
the working poor to the destitute and homeless, so our residents
have the experience of caring for a wide variety of patients.
Residents are encouraged to get
involved in adolescent care by applying for a position on the
school based health center team.
